We offer 3 to 4 different levels of English classes for adults.
Level one is focused on basic English. Introductions, ABC’s, numbers, colors, days of the week, months of the year, holidays, food, directions, and names of body parts, are taught. Verb conjugation in the simple present tense is introduced. Students learn about visits to the doctor’s office, rooms in the house, and emotions.
Level two is focused on intermediate-level English. Introductions, numbers, colors, days of the week, months of the year and holidays are reviewed. Students learn about food, and work on creating a menu, discuss directions, and places in the city, learn the names of body parts, and review simple present tense verb conjugation. Students are introduced to past and future tense, regular and irregular verb conjugation; prepositions; question-asking phrases; common and proper nouns; homophones; and other subjects.
Level three is focused on more advanced English. Simple present tense verb conjugation; verb conjugation in the past and future tense, regular and irregular; prepositions; and question-asking phrases are reviewed. A variety of topics are covered by reading articles about local, national and international news; discussion of the articles and writing about what was read. Students read one book per semester, which is chosen by the teacher. Students also discuss new vocabulary from their reading and do some writing using the readings or the vocabulary. (Books that have been read include Tuesdays with Morrie, Charlottes Web and Harry Potter.)
